Food & Beverage - Wedding Cakes

Today's couples cut a slice before anyone else and feed it to each other, symbolizing the support they'll provide through their many years together.

However, the cakes themselves have become a showpiece instead of a symbol. What do you want your wedding cake to symbolize? Here are some tips and suggestions to create the perfect cake, for YOU!

1. Add fruits and sugar flowers to make the decorations that can also be edible.

2. Use your heritage for inspiration. If you are unsure of the traditions, ask a family member for help.

3. Instead of purchasing a new cake top, ask to use your parents or use an object that is significant to you and your fiancé.

4. For a simple look, use fondant icing to create a smooth surface to your cake.

5. The cake does not have to white. (And were not talking about the icing color) You can decide on chocolate, marble or yellow, for a bit of a change.

6. Be cautious of weather climates. If your reception is outdoors in the summer, you will have certain restrictions such as, eliminating fillings and the use of a certain icing texture.

Be sure to describe, in detail, your wedding style, location, number of guests and time of year. This will give the baker an idea of what you are looking for and the price range. Remember, your wedding cake is not only a delicious dessert for your guests but it is a centerpiece of your evening.
