Food & Beverage - The Bar
When most people think about weddings, they think
about the party that follows the actual wedding ceremony. They
look forward to the celebration, seeing old friends and family,
the food, dancing all night (or watching others dance) and of
course, drinking.
Unfortunately, alcohol is one of the major costs
of a wedding reception. Most couples find it hard to eliminate
alcohol from their reception because they think their guests may
not have such a good time. But, there are several options that
will not only reduce the cost but, ensure you and your guests
have a great time.
Non-alcoholic wedding - Alcohol is a form of relaxation
and lets guests unwind. However, this is a wedding. The only people
who are stressed out are the vendors, photographers and etc. and
they are working, therefore, cannot drink.
Champagne Toast - Most reception facilities pour
a glass for each guest and will most likely charge per bottle.
This will give your guests just enough to celebrate without the
worry of "Aunt Lee" dancing on the tabletops. ;-)
DIY Liquor - Buy the liquor for your wedding reception
at a discount store. Many of them allow you to return unopened
bottles, so you only pay for what you use. Of course, your caterer
and reception facility must allow you to do this yourself, so
be sure to ask before you sign any contracts.
Cash bar - You can have soda, punch, coffee and
tea available to your guests, and if they would like beer, wine,
or mixed drinks they can purchase them.
One-hour open bar - Couples can offer an open
bar for the cocktail hour. After dinner, allow soda to be served
but all alcoholic beverages are cash only.
Beer and wine only - This is still going to be
expensive, but it does cost less than offering second or top shelf
liquor. Should you decide to serve liquor at your reception, dont
be shy about asking your guests to drink responsibly.
