Food & Beverage - Save Money
Cocktail Hour
Eliminate the Hors Doeuvres but you will want to keep the
bar open for guests to grab a drink or two while awaiting your
arrival. For the most part, this time is set-aside for everyone
to socialize and congratulate the newlyweds. Some guests will
not arrive until just before dinner is served therefore not allowing
them time to enjoy the extra food that is just tossed out at the
end of the night.
Main Course
Avoid the more expensive items such as lobster and steak and go
with chicken, fish or pasta. Eliminate appetizers and serve the
wedding cake for dessert and choose a buffet style dinner.
Wedding Cake
- Hiring a fancy or famous cake designer can boost your "cost
per slice" as much as $5.
- Special baking requests, such as fruit or cream
filling, will cost extra.
- Decorate the cake yourself using fresh flower
petals or items found at a craft store. Unique decorations such
as fountains and bridges will enhance your cost by at least 20%.
- Instead of a large display cake order a small
"show piece" with only two tiers and have a sheet cake
made of the same flavor to serve to your guests.
Alcohol
- Consider an open bar for the cocktail hour and a cash bar for
the remainder of the evening.
- Serve only beer and wine instead of second or
top shelf liquor.
Non-alcoholic
Serve only soda and punch. This, of course, is a personal preference.
